Be The Change: Teachers Encouraging Students

21 Oct

No matter how old you are, playing games are important.  It is mentally stimulating, keeps you engaged and keeps you psychologically fit.

~The importance of playing game by KRANTCENTS

There are several teachers/adults and I who are coordinating a new club called, Be The Change!

Our vision statement is:

that every child lives in a world where they feel safe, loved and celebrated

Our mission statement is:

to inspire people to Be The Change they wish to see in the world for the benefit of the planet and its people

to be the driving force in creating the school, organization or community of their dreams

We are having a blast- and so are our high school students!

We are teaching the students to enjoy “simple pleasures” in life.  We’ve decided that they need to learn to play.

I think they may have missed enjoying simple “play” somewhere along the way.  We played a game that involved running around when the “clue” was called.

Ha!!!  I thought I remembered how to play it, but my directions were “crazy” because I didn’t know what I was doing.  I do know, though, that we had a blast….and it didn’t cost a penny!

At the end of our “meeting,” a high school senior said, “I just want to say that I had a really good time!”

Priceless!!   I love those kids!!!

Solving math computations with Wolframalpha.com

8 Aug

Having trouble with math?  Get ready for the school year by checking out this site:  Wolframalpha.com

Here’s how it works:  type in your math problem, and it will be worked for you.  It’s not cheating; it’s helping you to see the pattern of how to solve the equation.  Sometimes seeing the process (repeatedly) of how to solve an equation, helps to work it on your own.

Students really like this site.  It helps with other academic subject areas, but I haven’t explored them.

This is NOT the test; it’s practice FOR the (real) test!

Sometimes students just need a little more practice than what educators can give in the 55 minutes lesson.

Mathematically,

Ann
